The final season in my colour personality series is winter, for me it is the hardest of all seasons, memories of blizzards at dawn whilst trying to find a couple of equines will never fade, along with frozen water troughs and horses wriggling out of their cosy rugs.
The barren pasture, lack of light and the white icy hue that winter carries all conspires to make a dramatic scene. The winter colour palette is one of extremes’ – vivid deep magenta, icy barely there blue, cool white and silver can all be found in the winter colour palette.
Dramatic and never fazed by attention the Winter Personality will never shy away from strong colour schemes, black and neon pink being a true winter combination. Soft hues of summer have no place around a winter colour palette.
Not scared to use strong colour, winters often love reds but avoid soft pinks. Colour schemes employing tonal variations of black, white and grey are commonplace; giving clean lines and sharp contrasts and purples are considered a safe choice for the main colour in a colour scheme, a sharp contrast to other seasons that will use purple sparingly as an accent. Blues cover a full spectrum of ice blues to blue blacks.
The winter personality favours simple colour schemes, one colour as a rule punctuated with accents of strong colours for contrast and added drama. Like winter personalities, the palette is self-assured and intense.
The winter business has no space for clutter; no hoarders here thank you very much. Lots of clean lines, square corners and glossy surfaces. Winter personalities will probably have a high interest in technology and gadgets and drive a new car with all the toys. A winter design would include a strong colour scheme, little texture and few patterns. When creating a design for a winter personality, we look to create maximum drama, bold punchy headlines will stand out from the copy, bold colours, high tech finishes like gloss, or metal will suit this personality.
The winter business is fast paced, and suited to the city, IT companies fall into this personality as they keep up with the latest technology. Hallmarks to look out for are confidence, decisiveness, and ambition.
So that’s my take on the seasons, which one are are you ? If you are still not sure I have something to help you later this week.
Till next time
Katie
